The Tropic Cinema opened its doors in Old Town Key West in 2004. We had one simple idea: to bring quality movies to people who longed for something more than Hollywood blockbusters. Our artistically diverse island community deserved to see amazing independent films, international favorites and cinematic classics — film that appealed to folks who value going beyond the usual.
What started as a small, two-screen nonprofit theater quickly expanded to a four-screen multiplex with state-of-the-art digital projection, an art gallery, extensive concessions, and lounge. We created a modern Art Deco design to represent the best of both Old Hollywood and contemporary cinema, and offered the theater as a community center. We not only have the best movies, but we also host scores of concerts, political forums, lectures, private parties and even weddings!
As one of the leading nonprofit organizations in the Florida Keys, we understand that we couldn’t get here without the support of those generous people who call Key West home: our volunteer Board of Directors, our small management staff, our Donors who invest in our vision, our Members who help make everything possible and the Volunteers who make everything happen.
