SALT Gallery, 830 Fleming St., will feature a new collection of colorful paintings by Austrian artist Margot Holzapfel this month.
To celebrate this cross-cultural collaboration, SALT will be co-hosting two opening receptions with John Brandolino (better known as the Sole Man) at the gallery from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10.
Margot Holzapfel was born in Ybbs, Austria, and studied art under Professor Christian Ludwig Attersee, one of Austria’s greatest contemporary artists. She has exhibited in various galleries in Ybbs, at Ringstrassen Galleries in Vienna, and at Art-Fair at the Louvre in Paris in 2016. She first showed in Key West in 2013 at the Joy Gallery.
Margot does not reproduce reality, but instead spots and retains the essence, the distinctive encounter and internalized vitality of a moment. She knows how to create soulful worlds of color and emotions turned into pictures that inevitably establish an intimate relationship with the beholder. Her pictorial compositions reflect her personal vision of an experience.
“Initially I started painting in watercolor, but quite soon it turned out that the formats of a canvas and the sizes of colors on them were too small for me,” Margot explains. “Consequently, that brought me to the larger formats used in acrylic painting. I was delighted to see that in both formats and colors. I could much better express my emotions and my dynamic style of painting had no limits. My target and ambition is to bring joy and positive emotions to people´s lives. Each painting is a new challenge. Each painting is a piece of artistic license from the first to the last moment of producing. |And, if I may quote Pablo Picasso: ‘Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.’ And that’s exactly how I want to carry on and develop my passion for art.”
“We are so honored that Margot is coming all the way back to Key West to show her delightful pieces at SALT,” says gallery owner Laura Richardson. “And we are very excited to be partnering with Sole Man owner John Brandolino to bring Margot’s art to Key West. Please join us on Feb. 9 and 10 for wine, food and to meet Margot and celebrate this momentous collaboration.”
SALT Gallery features an eclectic collection of local art, local sea salts, jewelry, pottery, wine and Florida Keys honey. Gallery owners Maria Sharpe and Laura Richardson feature a new artist each month at SALT. Margot’s work will remain on display until Feb. 28.
