Organizers reimagine SMART Ride

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on many charitable events, as groups scramble to rethink approaches to fundraising. Case in point: The SMART Ride.

Traditionally the bicycle trek has been a 165-mile journey from Miami to Key West. In that spirit, participants this year will be challenged to ride 165 miles, wherever they may be, the weekend of Nov. 20-22. In addition, anyone can participate this year by committing to logging 165 miles, minutes, or any other measurable metric of a physical challenge they choose over that weekend.

Since 2003, SMART Ride has raised over $11.8 million. This year’s recipients are AIDS Help (AH) (Monroe County), Broward House (Broward County), Compass Community Center (Palm Beach County), Metro Inclusive Health (Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties), Miracle of Love (Central Florida) and Pridelines (Miami-Dade County).
