Tara O’Grady’s romantic vintage jazz and swing stylings hit the perfect note to kick off a sultry Key West summer. The New York City-based bandleader and songstress is next up in The Studios of Key West’s Blue Heaven Concert Series, and tickets are going fast for her performance, “Good Things Come to Those Who Wait,” at The Studios’ landmark building at 533 Eaton St. on Friday, April 26, at 8 p.m.

Delighting audiences wherever she plays, O’Grady’s soulful voice has been compared to Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin and Amy Winehouse. She has a stunning repertoire of jazz standards and blues, swing favorites from 1950s, country and rock ’n’ roll, as well as original twists on Irish standards.

Music from her three albums can be heard on the radio from America to Europe, and along with her band she has performed live at Lincoln Center, Birdland, The Astor Room, Rockwood Music Hall, The Museum of the City of New York, The Jewish Museum, Flatiron Hotel, Refinery Hotel and music festivals across the country.

Raised on Irish traditional music, as well as the sounds of Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Peggy Lee, Glenn Miller, Hank Williams, Louis Prima, Patsy Cline, Nat King Cole, Nina Simone, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, O’Grady spent every summer on her grandparents’ farm in Donegal, Ireland, where she listened to her granny Nora singing in the kitchen.

New York Music Daily calls O’Grady a “torch chanteuse,” and says, “… one thing that distinguishes her from the legions of come-hither, moldy fig front women is that O’Grady writes her own songs — when she’s at the top of her game, which she generally seems to be, they sound like classics from the 1930s. She brings Bessie Smith into this century with lickety-split swing.”

Tickets for O’Grady’s concert are $32/$25 members and are now on sale at www.tskw.org, or by calling 305-296- 0458. The concert will be followed by a book signing for O’Grady’s recently released, “Migrating toward Happiness: The Soundtrack to My Spiritual Awakening.” The concert is sponsored by Key West Luxury Real Estate. ¦
