Key West says, “So long!” to 2020

Individual lights and fireworks, viewed from the 86-foot-high observation deck of the Key West Lighthouse, light up the sky over Key West’s Old Town district at midnight on Dec. 31. Though Key West observed a 10 p.m. curfew over New Year’s weekend to help curtail COVID-19 transmission, locals and visitors were invited to participate in an “Illuminate Key West” virtual event that included a Florida Keys Media radio simulcast countdown broadcast from the Lighthouse grounds and invited one and all to shine individual lights into the sky at midnight to welcome the New Year.

Illuminate Key West was among the final events of Key West Holiday Fest. It was a virtual and stay-at-home lightshow and radio broadcast because of the city’s 10 p.m. curfew, which was designed to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
