Jag Gallery offers an invitation to spend time with their new show, “Dreaming,” featuring two of Key West’s most beloved artists, Susan Sugar and Cathy Rose. Over twenty years ago Cathy, a potter, and Susan, a fledgling painter, crossed paths with Diane Zolotow of Lucky Street Gallery. She gave them their first shows, and a foundation from which they have built nationally recognized careers. Cathy’s first delicate ceramic and found object assemblages were an exploration of loss, and while they have never discarded their vulnerability, they now shimmer with an emotionally changed strength. Susan’s sunrise pilgrimages to the same Key West shoreline began as a way to sit with absence, her large scale oil paintings capturing roiling clouds and shimmering light. Over the years the shoreline has slipped away as she has leapt into the encircling glow and breath of sunrise.
These more intimate watercolors and delicately forged sculptures reward time and contemplation. Jag gallery is pleased to offer you a quiet space to take that time with an extended opening on Wednesday, June 24, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Savor a cup of coffee while social distancing. Linger over a glass of wine with the artists during virtual or safely scheduled visits. Take the time for Dreaming. Jag Gallery is located at 1075 Duval St., Space C-23 in Duval Square. “Dreaming” will run until July 26. ¦
