BAHAMA VILLAGE MUSIC PROGRAM: 20 YEARS OF MUSIC

On Christmas Day in 2004, my parents excitedly pulled two gifts out from under the tree, one each for myself and my younger sister. The boxes were rectangular and similar in size. Eagerly, my sister tore into her wrapping paper like a feral cat, revealing a shiny new laptop. Wide-eyed, I did the same… and unwrapped a clarinet. I’d love […]

Red Barn Theatre launches 2019-2020 season

In times that are increasingly polar, where abrasive invective is hurled around as casually as a Starbucks order and where we tend to insulate ourselves from perspectives foreign to our own, it is apparent that, now more than ever, our community needs theater. Theater that is unsafe, that forces us to ask the indelicate questions, to turn the mirror towards […]

Ask locals about their favorite spots or stroll through quiet neighborhoods and down alleyways off Duval, and you’ll begin to dive deeper into the quieter, more diverse and less readily apparent offerings. Here are eight spots you might […]

Chuting for meaning with Skydive Key West

AROUND THE KEYS

From a young age, we gesture towards scattering birds as they play hot potato with a prized slice of bacon, our plates dive-bombed by ravenous seagulls. Even before Orville and Wilbur began […]

‘A lady never tells’: Melody Moore’s most tight-lipped interview yet

LOCAL FOCUS

Melody Moore is a thespian and at one point was responsible for some of the best cheesecake creations in Key West. But you won’t hear about that last part in this interview. Why? Because she’s busy preparing for the first show of the Red Barn Theatre’s 40th season — “Tiny Beautiful Things” — where she occasionally stars and manages the […]
